Ivan Generalić (Croatian, Naïve Art, 1914-1992): Deer in the Forest, 1956. Oil on glass. The Croatian Museum of Naïve Art, Zagreb, Croatia.
To my delight, a friend turned me on to a Facebook page called “I Require Art” and by liking the page, I receive regular postings of some of the world’s most breathtaking art. And what true pleasure, to see such a variety of masterpieces from all over the world. Granted, it would be marvelous to see them “live” but this is the next best thing and it’s available 24/7 while you’re in your favorite chair.
Having never studied art, I have no educated knowledge other than when I look at it, being aware of how it makes me feel at that moment; and sometimes a long while after. Do you know what you like or don’t like when it comes to art? Do you express yourself through your own art? For the longest time, I believed that I was incapable of drawing a circle. Recently, with gentle encouragement from family and friends, I started to relax with my own art. It’s really quite liberating and fun; an exercise, if you will, of your inner spirit expressing itself. And isn’t that what art is all about, after all?
